Introduction
Grand Theft Auto is a truly massive game, with GTA 5 and the constant updates from Rockstar for GTA Online providing no shortage of new content and interesting things to do. In this video series, “Every business in GTA 5,” we will look at ways to max your cash in the game, starting with the fifth Grand Theft Auto 5 story mode McKenzie Airfield Arms Trafficking Air mission: the Airfield Carpet Bombing Run.
The McKenzie Airfield Mission
The Airfield Carpet Bombing Run mission is the fifth mission of the air trafficking missions in GTA 5. The first five missions are all once-offs, so it is important to take the time to get the bonuses and really amp up the experience. From mission six onwards, you’ll end up rotating between the three standard drop missions, so enjoy the uniqueness of this mission whilst you can.
Before beginning the mission, we highly recommend grabbing a plane and practicing the split S maneuver. The split S maneuver involves doing an inside half loop, followed by a half barrel roll. If you are unfamiliar with this procedure, check out our Flight School video linked up top or in the description below from around the two-minute mark.
Once you are comfortable with the maneuver, it’s time to start the mission. Pull out of the hangar, and immediately steer out and get airborne as soon as possible. Gear up using the “G” key on your keyboard or the left thumbstick for PlayStation and Xbox. Bank off to the left and go straight across the Los Santos International Airport (LMO-C).
Even though once you receive the briefing you end up with a marker on the right-hand side, it is important to take a wide approach to Trevor’s airfield. Gauge when to release the bombs using the mini-map and then continue on. Use the same approach to make your way back and drop bombs again. Once you are far enough away, do an inside half loop that aligns your plane with the next run.
For the final run, get low and prepare to drop bombs. Gauge your altitude using the mini-map and drop them when ready. Wait for just a few seconds until you’re clear, then perform the half inside barrel roll and half inside loop. It doesn’t matter which order you do them in, just get it done. For the landing, approach the airfield and gear down using the “G” key or your left thumbstick. Line-up slightly high and then drop as you get down over those back markers.
Next, land as quickly as possible to get the time bonus. We completed the mission in three minutes with an extra $250. Very happy with that one, plus it was a lot of fun. You got to blow up some planes and make some money while doing it.
To Summarize
To recap, the McKenzie Airfield mission in GTA 5’s story mode is a fantastic tool to help you earn cash. This mission is unique, and whilst some air trafficking missions may look similar, no other mission in the story mode version of the game allows you to partake in carpet bombing. Take the time to learn the split S maneuver, use the mini-map to gauge altitude, and watch out for those pesky planes.
And just a quick note on the Vellum, it is an extraordinary machine that can earn you a lot of cash in the game. So, do not miss out on the opportunity to make your fortune by trying out the McKenzie Field hangar and the Turtle Airways site.
