Introduction to Grand Theft Auto 5
Grand Theft Auto 5 is a massive game, and with the constant updates from Rockstar for GTA Online, there’s no shortage of new content and interesting things to do. Join us in our continuing series of getting gold in every damn mission in GTA 5 as we look at the Grand Theft Auto story mode’s Altruist Cult.
Unlocking the Altruist Cult in Grand Theft Auto 5 Story Mode
The Altruist Cult becomes available after Trevor has completed Nervous Ron. That’s one where we take over the Azteca’s airfield and do our first gun running run. The Altruists are tied to the random events where you have to pick up people and drive them to a destination. You can do this on almost any one of the events except the FIB McCreary, Nataliana Martinez, and the Bucks Party Gone Bad.
If Trevor picks up any other hitchhiker or needs to drop a rando somewhere, you should see a notification pop up on the screen, and a new temporary marker will appear on the map. Drive the unfortunate soul up to the Altruist Camp and drop them off. As you drop off your fourth hitchhiker, Trevor will be ushered into the Altruist Camp, and things will kick off.
Now again, this can be done with just about anyone that has a set destination, but for our money, we typically go for the hitchhiker lady who has been on a week-long bender and is taking advantage of a young man’s naivety and generosity. There’s also the alleged former member of the lost motorcycle club who appears to have robbed the club and her family and is attempting to spin a story to help her get away with it.
You can also pick up a guy who wants to drive home drunk in a large SUV, who can be found near Floyd’s place, and finally, the serial cheater who is complaining that his wife is upset about his extramarital philandering. If you get really stuck, there’s always the amorous couple not far from Trevor’s place. Alternatively, if you’ve already had all these random events, there may be other compatible events using the Fandom’s GTA wiki.
Before you pick up your fourth hitchhiker, we highly recommend grabbing a heavy automatic and body armor and making sure that Trevor’s rage meter is full, which you can do by shooting pedestrians or cops.
The Altruist Cult Shootout
Once you arrive at the camp with your unfortunate sacrifice, you will witness a cutscene. Trevor will have a little bit of a spat and asks for money, which, of course, does not sit well with the Altruist Cult. They will usher him straight back into the compound, and after the weirdest cutscene ever, you drop straight into cover.
Start shooting immediately by going into rage mode and start picking off anyone you can see. There will be a group down the front, and there’s another cluster a little bit further up. Once they come into view, drop into rage mode and then peg them off.
There will be few stragglers sitting on top of towers and on top of roofs. Try to get a line on them and shoot them down. After clearing everyone, head back up and head to the big house to the right of the altar. Go up the stairs and around the corner, and you can find the first package in the back corner.
Next, head down the stairs to the right and go to the little house across the way. You can find the next package here already flashing. As you make your way down, you’ll see two more packages, you’ve got one up on the shack with the blue tarp, and the other one is on the little shack right at the end.
That’s all four packages collected at $25,000 apiece, giving Trevor an extra $100,000. Not a bad effort for a couple of minutes of work. If you want to join the Altruist Cult, you know where to go.
