We recommend grabbing some body armor, some explosives, and sniper ammunition before starting the mission for the best preparation.
Starting the Mission
As soon as you take control of Trevor, jump on the bike, and head to the hospital to pick up some armor. The extra 30 seconds taken here could mean the difference between life and death for Trevor later, so it’s time saved. Now, follow the GPS to rendezvous with the train. The first thing we need to worry about is getting the bike up to top speed. You can push forward on the bike to lean forward on the bike and get going as quickly as possible.
Once you reach top speed, head to the rendezvous to meet the train. It’s essential not to get hit by any cars as it will slow Trevor down and reduce top armor and health, which is crucial later on. You don’t have to be alongside the train, but we recommend staying close to it.
Blowing up the Bridge
Once you’re on the train and in control, hold down the accelerator – the train controls are up in the top left corner. As you come up to the bridge, there is a cutscene where you swap to Michael, who is on the boat. The boat only steers when it has rudders in the water and power on, making it essential to hold power while steering.
Once you’re through the bridge, head towards the yellow container and throw a sticky bomb at it. The explosion will trigger a swap back to Trevor. Use the RPG to take out a couple of boats pretty early on. Be careful to aim for the right spot with the RPG. Otherwise, it could end poorly. Don’t waste ammo with the wrong angle.
Taking out Snipers and Helicopters
Next, use a heavy assault rifle to take out the remaining enemies, and switch to the RPG to shoot down the second chopper. After getting rid of the first set of helis, grab a sniper rifle and switch to night vision to take out the snipers on the bridge. Be wary of your remaining sniper rifle ammo. You should finish them off using the assault rifle.
Once you’ve taken out the snipers, prepare yourself for the next set of enemies, Maryweather. Use the night vision scope to easily target the enemies on parachutes. Be sure to take out the pilot to make things easier. After the enemies are dead, head to the yellow marker and swap back to Michael, who is on the boat.
The Final Stretch
Once you’re on the boat, swap back to Trevor immediately and pick up the gun to hold off the helicopters. Use the same tactics as before to take down the helicopters. As soon as they’re down, head towards the cars, and jump into the one marked by yellow. This action will prompt a cutscene that will end the mission, and you’ll get a gold medal if you complete it in under 11 minutes and 30 seconds.
Bonus Tips
Here are some bonus tips for finishing the mission in one go:
- Slow down a little as you approach the train to make it easier to make the jump the first time.
- Stay close to the train, and you can go flat out without any fear for Trevor going any further off the rails.
- Stick with Trevor for the final stretch as it is easier to handle than Michael.
With these tips and tricks, you can easily get gold in GTA 5 Derailed mission. Give it a shot and see how fast you can complete it.
