During the Strangers and Freaks task Freeway Race, Hao introduces the player to the first race. A text message from Hao will open a new race when the objective is completed, and Franklin must continue to win the races in order to advance to the next one.
The series consists of five races that are only available between the hours of 20:00 and 05:00. To obtain 100% completion, a medal in each of the Hao Street Races counts as 5 of the mandatory 42 Hobbies and Pastimes.
Hao is a Los Santos citizen that participates in races all over the city. He appears to be affiliated with The Families and knows both Lamar Davis and Franklin Clinton.
Hao makes a brief cameo in Grand Theft Auto Online, providing a vehicle for the player to race against Lamar. He also works at the Los Santos Customs business near the Los Santos International Airport as a mechanic.
Hao challenges Franklin and his pals to a street racing in Grand Theft Auto V. After the race, the player can participate in four additional street races across the city. Franklin also has a cameo in the task Father/Son, when he drives Amanda De Santa’s vehicle to Los Santos Customs. Hao is repairing Amanda’s vehicle here.
Hao first appears in the GTA Online: Los Santos Tuners update’s LS Car Meet introductory cinematic. When the player arrives and stops him, he is bragging about his “silver medal” discussion with Franklin, in which Mimi claims Hao really finished third. He’ll frequently be spotted at auto shows gazing at the vehicles, with his upgraded orange Penumbra parked in one of the spaces.
